Youth advisory panel to the Office of the Chief Coroner

The deadline for submission is Wednesday, February 14, 2018.

The Ontario Child Advocate is looking for three to five young people who are interested in sharing their thoughts and ideas with the Office of the Chief Coroner.

The Coroner’s Office has established an expert panel to review the deaths of 11 youth who were living in a residential placement. The youth advisory members will meet to provide advice directly to the Coroner's Office regarding residential placements and the mental health system separate from the expert panel.

The time-frame is tight as the first meeting is planned for February 24, 2018.

We are looking for:

  • Youth between the ages of 15 – 20 years
  • Youth who have interest and/or experience with the mental health system and residential placement, and want to share their thoughts and ideas.

Youth involved will be expected to make a commitment for up to two meetings in Toronto within February or March 2018. Honorarium will be provided, and travel and accommodation to Toronto will also be provided.

If you are interested in participating on the Advisory, please send an email outlining your interest as well as a contact number to Ruth Hislop at

In accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005, upon request, accommodation will be provided by the Advocate's Office throughout the selection and/or assessment process to applicants with disabilities. The Advocate’s Office is committed to building an organization that reflects the diversity of the province. We encourage applications from individuals who represent a diversity of backgrounds, cultures, and communities.
